After her youth in Ohio, Diane had the opportunity to live in many locales both in the USA and abroad. She particularly enjoyed her time in West Yarmouth, MA; Tachikawa, Japan and Taipei, Taiwan. While her love of travel remained she settled and made her home in Ridgecrest, CA in 1992.
Throughout her life Diane demonstrated an indefatigable creative energy, pursuing many artistic hobbies. She was an accomplished seamstress, painter, and illustrator. Her deftness with the needle and thread allowed her to alter wedding dresses for strangers, design a beloved wardrobe of doll clothing for her daughters, and create award-winning costumes for her grandchildren.
While her employment was varied, Diane spent much of her time as an office worker and accountant. She especially enjoyed her time spent at the Hunt-Wesson Foods in the early 1970s, a position which allowed her family to be one of the first to experience Hamburger Helper. In the early 1980s she worked in advertising for Honda Motorcycles, a position she enjoyed greatly.
Diane also volunteered for an eclectic mix of responsibilities and tasks. She contributed her artistic finesse and bookkeeping ability to fundraising events and symposia sponsored by The Ohio State University's Honey Bee Laboratory in Wooster, OH. Her efforts earned her a Distinguished Volunteer award from the Eastern apicultural Society in 1995. As an advocate of scouting, she held the title of Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 291 and was awarded the Outstanding Committee Secretary Award by the Southern Sierra Boy Scout Council in 2002.
In 1987, she married George Matusic who survives. Also surviving are daughters Catheleen (Joe) Melendez and Sharron (Greg) Ferrell and Anita Ray; grandchildren Hilary Johnson, Jason and Alicia Ferrell, Aundrea and Katelyn Melendez; step-daughters Debbie (Gary) Burgwald and Patricia (Mazin) Kashou; step grandchildren Cody Burgwald and Jessica, Brittany, Michael, and George Kashou; sister Gerry (Dean) Crawford; nieces Tammy Welch and Laurie (Joe) Kehres; and nephew Tim Crawford.
