The death of Major Ibbetson, long connected with the Commissariat Department of her Majesty's Army, having served for 33 years, 11 of which were spent in New Zealand, is announced among the obituary notice. He filled the position of Deputy Commissary-General during the war in New Zealand. He served in Canada and other colonies and was possessed of decorations for foreign service. He was only 55 years of age. He was in possession of a pension of £250 a year at the time of his death.
In yesterday's issue we recorded the death of Frederick Henry Ibbetson, Esq., late Assistant-Commissary General, after six months' lingering illness. The funeral procession will leave his late residence, Chapel-street, on Wednesday, at half-past four o'clock. It was his dying wish to be buried with the military honours due to his rank; old officers of the Imperial and Militia forces are specially invited to be present. The late Mr Ibbetson has been in New Zealand about eleven years and has seen thirty-three years of active service in different parts of the world. He was also a member of the Masonic body.
Tomorrow the remains of the late Major Ibbetson will, doubtless, be followed to the grave by a large concourse of people. For a considerable time before his deceased he held the appointment of Assistant Commissary General. It is understood that he will be buried with military and masonic honors.
