Martha worked for an architectural firm in St. Louis, and then with architect Philip Hurbert Frohman in Washington DC. Martha was the chief restoration architect for the National Cathedral in Washington DC. She also was a skilled pianist. In 1948 she married Dr. Victor Thompson, a medical student, and they had one child, a daughter who also became an architect.
