Adelia Heitz, 94, Great Falls, MT, and formerly of Sturgis, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Benefis Health Care Facility in Great Falls.

Adelia was born May 24, 1913, at Medina, ND, to Mike and Louise Erdman.

She married Arthur Heitz Sr. on November 3, 1932, in Jamestown, ND. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her children and provided a loving home for them. She and Art were farmers near Arpan, SD, until they retired in 1971 and moved to Sturgis where they lived until Art passed away in 2001. Adelia then moved to Great Falls, MT, with her daughter, Adelia Vig.

Adelia was very involved in her church as head of the Missionettes, active in Sunday School Teaching, the WMC's and the music department by singing and playing everything from piano and trumpet to saxophone and harmonica. As a young girl, Adelia and her sisters would sing on street corners in Fruitdale for street ministry.

Adelia will always be remembered for her fabulous home cooking and homemade bread. She was always bringing home the new people attending her church for Sunday dinner. Before they could leave, Adelia would size them with a pattern and eventually she would create new outfits for the entire family. She was an excellent seamstress. Adelia also loved to garden. With her green thumb, she was able to grow flowers and vegetables. Adelia was always a peace maker and a very loving mother and wife.

Survivors include her three sons, Norbert (Dolores) Heitz, Davenport, FL, Clarence (Beverly) Heitz, Glendale, AZ, and Arthur (Jeanne) Heitz, Jr., Nemo, SD; two daughters, Adelia Vig, Great Falls, MT, and Elaine (Robert) Edwards, Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Sean Heitz, James Heitz, Donald Heitz, Darrell Vig, Dale Vig, Denise Meyer, Dean Vig, Brenda Castaldo, Norman Heitz, Lurlene Klein, and Tamera Peek; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Heitz, Sr.; sisters, Emma Schaub and Olga Stockburger; brother, Hugo Erdman; and daughter-in-law, Maureen Heitz.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Crossroads Assembly of God Church in Sturgis with Pastor Daryl Wileman and Pastor Danny Winter officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
