Mahala was one of the early pioneers who came to settle Utah. At the age of 14 she was a member of Brigham Young Company (1848)

1220 individuals were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Winter Quarters, Nebraska. Mahala was accompanied by her siblings Sanford (16), Emma (9), and Moroni (6).

Springville, Jan 25 – Mrs. Mahala Crandall died here Thursday, Jan. 25, on the eighty-first anniversary of her birth. She was born in Saratoga county, New York, and came to Utah in 1848. She and her husband were among the early settlers in Spanish Fork in the early fifties. Mrs. Crandall was the daughter of Edward M. and Hannah Fuller. Her husband, Martin P. Crandall, to whom she was married at age of 17 years, died a number of years ago. Mrs. Crandall is survived by three sons. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 28, at 1 o'clock.
