Edward Patrick Murphy Jr. died on May 25, 2021, in a tragic accident. Edward was born Sept. 8, 1970, at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
He died doing what he loved. His passion and goal for the last few years was to complete all 48 of the 4,000-foot mountains in New Hampshire. He would have met his goal this summer. He died after completing his 39th peak.
He will be greatly missed by his family and childhood friends who know him as Ted or Teddy, his friends who know him as Ed, and his fraternity brothers who know him as Butler.
He grew up in Ipswich, Mass. Graduated from Ipswich High School and attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. He spent the last 10 years working at Exeter Hospital in the IT Department.
He was a founding member of the UMass Lowell chapter of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity in 1990. He was a friend and mentor to other fraternity Alumni and to active student members for several decades.
He was an Eagle Scout, an avid hiker, hunter, mountain biker, and could spin any story into a tale that would make you laugh.
He was an 18th century reenactor and member of the recreated unit of the Kings Rangers. He volunteered his time at the Fort at No. 4 in Charleston, N.H., where he found a love of baking in an 18th century wood fired clay oven. He enjoyed this so much that he built his own oven in the back yard and helped to rebuild the oven at the fort where he regularly demonstrated the trade of an 18th century baker.
These are just small things that do not capture what a wonderful person, father, husband, son, brother, and friend Ed was. He is survived by his wife of almost 22 years, Angela (Marineau) and his daughter, Olivia, of Sandown, N.H.; his parents, Edward and Linda (McGrath) Murphy, of Ipswich, Mass.; his sister, Amy (Murphy) and her husband, Paul Sevigny and their daughters, Abbie and Katie, of Kingston, N.H.; his brother, Brian Murphy of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his very large extended family and numerous friends. He will be missed tremendously.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Hope Church Hall, 54 Linebrook Road in Ipswich, Mass., on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up for his daughter's college education.
