Son of Sion Jones Bruce and Dicey Merritt Bruce. He is on the 1850 census in Pike County, AL with Dicey and his siblings. In 1860, he is on the census in Neshoba County, MS with his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Edwards Bruce, and their 1st 4 kids: James Lemuel, twins Charles Melton and John Wesley "Rufus", and eight month old Sion Parker.

By 1870, they had moved to Attala County, MS where they would remain. Sion Parker (4th child above) is missing on this census and has already died. Then, William W isn't on the 1880 census with Elizabeth, he obviously has died before that date. No record has yet to be found to support that because of the courthouse fires that Attala County had which lost valuable information. Also, the last son listed in that 1870 census was Jacob Henry, but we know of two more sons who were born before 1880: Joseph T (born 1871) and William W (born 1876).

Joseph T only shows up in the Mississippi Educable Children's school list for 1878 when he is listed along with his siblings. But, since he isn't on the 1880 census with Elizabeth, he must have died during the time in-between 1871 and 1880 (having never been on a census). And, William W must have lived at least until 1875 since his namesake was born in 1876. See Elizabeth's page for additional information on her family and name.
