Professional Football Player. He was born George Richard Haley Jr. and for 7 seasons in the National Football League he played for the Washington Redskins (1959–1960), the Minnesota Vikings (1961) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (1961 to 1964). Before starting his professional career he attended college at the University of Pittsburgh where he played for the Pitt Panthers. After being drafted in the 1959 NFL draft in round 9 as pick 100 he started his professional career. While in the NFL he played in 75 games of which he started in 62 of them. He made 14 interceptions and scored 2 touchdowns in his career. He played in 4 Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII, XIV) and was inducted into the Pittsburgh Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Inaugural Class as a scout. When he retired from playing he served as the Steelers General Manager for a period of years before joining the Jets organization in 1990 where he spent 12years as their general manager before completely retiring from football at the end of the season in 2002. He is the father of the USFL Memphis Showboats head coach Todd Haley. He passed away after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease and dementia.
