Alma Janine Whorton passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the age of 88.

Alma was born to Dewey and Mavis Eddy on September 12, 1934, in Tiawah, Oklahoma. In her early years Alma dreamed of becoming a schoolteacher and would often line up all of her dolls and teach them. At a young age Alma left school to get married and raise her family. She loved being a wife and mother, it was her greatest source of joy in life. Alma loved to sew and embroidery. She would make clothes for all her children and some of her grandchildren. She loved making christening gowns and embroidered each one of them specifically for that child. She was always a hard worker and did her best to take care of her family. In 1980 after losing her first husband Alma decided to go back to school and completed GED classes. After completing these classes, Alma started college at Rogers State in Claremore followed by NSU in Tahlequah going on to receive her teaching degree in 1984. Unfortunately after her first semester as a student teacher she had an accident that left her with a severe back injury and was unable to teach in a school.

But later in life Alma would take care of her grandchildren and would often home school them. She never met a child that she didn't take in as one of her own and eventually they would begin to call her mom or grandma. Her children's friends became her own children. Alma was never one to sit down and was always moving doing something. She always kept a clean house and cleaned it up until one year ago. She could outwork just about anyone. Alma was loved by many and has left a huge impact on her family and all those that knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents, husbands VanOrr Burkhead and Harold Whorton, son VanOrr Burkhead ll and wife Mary Burkhead, sons-in-laws Michael J Mcclain, Richard Fumi, Bill Bushyhead, Jim Hinkle, and John Ritter, stepson Lance Whorton, stepdaughter Jennifer Whorton, and brother Lawrence Eddy and grandson Zachary Whorton.

Alma is survived by daughters, Carolyn Fumi, Cathy Bushyhead, Barbara Ritter, and Donna Whorton, Son Donnie Burkhead and wife Cathleen, stepsons Tim Whorton, Mike Whorton and Brian Whorton, sisters Twila Jo Graves and Judy Jones, brother- in- law Lonnie Burkhead, 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a multitude of many
other relatives and friends.
