It was in Lockney, as a sophomore, that she had her first and most prideful career; driving a hay baler for the family baling enterprise. Her dad blocked the bales and her brother, Sid Jr. tied them while Jeanne drove the tractor. She continued driving the tractor in the summer even while attending Baylor University. She graduated from Lockney High School as valedictorian in 1946 and graduated from Baylor in 1950 and started teaching shortly thereafter.
In Pecos, Tx, Jeanne married the love of her life, Mark E. Fairman, Jr. Together they had three children, Mark, Robert and Sydney. Besides her hay baling career, Jeanne taught school in Texas and New Mexico for over 20 years, and worked as a legal assistant in Lubbock for over 30 years. She was an expert tennis player well into her eighties, taught and played a mean piano, and won several awards for her original poetry.
