Sidney Jeanne Fairman left us for greener pastures to bale on February 23, 2023. She was the only daughter of Sid B. Thomas and Emma Camilla Fox Thomas and was born August 11, 1931 in Childress, Tx. Her mother and father were both school teachers and Jeanne went to school in Tell, Tx until 7th grade, before riding the bus for school in Childress, Tx. She moved to Lockney, Tx in her sophomore year and finished high school there.

It was in Lockney, as a sophomore, that she had her first and most prideful career; driving a hay baler for the family baling enterprise. Her dad blocked the bales and her brother, Sid Jr. tied them while Jeanne drove the tractor. She continued driving the tractor in the summer even while attending Baylor University. She graduated from Lockney High School as valedictorian in 1946 and graduated from Baylor in 1950 and started teaching shortly thereafter.

In Pecos, Tx, Jeanne married the love of her life, Mark E. Fairman, Jr. Together they had three children, Mark, Robert and Sydney. Besides her hay baling career, Jeanne taught school in Texas and New Mexico for over 20 years, and worked as a legal assistant in Lubbock for over 30 years. She was an expert tennis player well into her eighties, taught and played a mean piano, and won several awards for her original poetry.

Jeanne was proceeded in death by her husband Mark in 1989 and by her Mom, Dad and brother and is survived by her three children and their families which include six grandchildren and nine great grands, of which she was so very proud. She will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery, 5740 W. 19th St., Lubbock, Tx (www.resthavenfuneralhome.com). In lieu of flowers, she has asked that donations by made to New Mexico Children's Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
