Henry served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Delaware Cavalry during the Civil War.

He died of dysentery at Newton General Hospital and was buried on 27 October 1863 at the age of 46.

He was originally buried in what was called plot M-740 before the land for the National cemetery was purchased by the government from Loudon Park Cemetery in 1865.
