Mazie Barnett, age 99 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky, died Thursday March 2, 2023 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on January 15, 1924 the daughter of Luther and Emily Etter (Patrick) Bryant. Mazie had worked as a cook and maid in the motel and was a member of the Indian Creek United Baptist Church. Her favorite hobbies were quilting, reading and fishing.

Her parents; husbands, Virgil Barnett and Robert Justus; son Doyle Edward Barnett; daughter, Anna Lee Barnett; brothers, Gilbert Bryant, Ellis Bryant, Richard Bryant, and Lonzo Bryant; and sisters, Della Haden, Norma Sauls, Mary Ann Meadows, and Jean Bryant precede her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Virgil J. Barnett of Whitley City, Kentucky and Howard Barnett and wife, Debbie of Burkesville, Kentucky; daughters, Brenda Lynch of Avon Park, Florida, Betty Vanover of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Donna Ridener of Whitley City, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmie Vanover officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 12pm Sunday at the Funeral Home.
