Velma Rose (Benefiel) Buckman, 85, of Newton passed away at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Buckman was born on Nov. 23, 1922, in Newton, the daughter of Ernest and Nora (Wagner) Benefiel. She married William F. Buckman on Nov. 26, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2001.
She worked for many years in Accounts Receivable for the Farmingdale, N.Y. School District. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Farmingdale.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (wife, Darlene) Buckman, James (wife, Barbara) Buckman, and Donald Buckman; brother, Norman (wife, Dottie) Benefiel; three grandchildren, Tom Buckman, Kristin (husband, LoCicero) and Terry Buckman; and great- granddaughter, Makayla LoCicero.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, William Buckland Jr., and a sister, Ernestine Hall.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. Mario Mayer officiating.
Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jasper County Senior Citizens.
