Anna B. Appenzellar attended schools in Chambersburg, where she grew up. In 1945, she graduated from Wilson College, Chambersburg, with a Bachelor's degree in English. In 1946, she obtained a Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University. She had been a reporter for her hometown's newspaper, Public Opinion.

From 1950 to 1952, she was Assistant Director of the University Service and head resident of a women's dormitory at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA.

In 1952, she returned to college, earning a Master of Divinity from Yale University Divinity School. Fifteen years of leadership with the YWCA followed- first as executive director of of the campus YWCA at Indiana University, and beginning in 1958, was executive director of the YWCA at the University of Texas.

From 1970 to 1973, she was a coordinator and associate director in program development in adult education at St. Edwards University. In 1974, she joined the Measurement Evaluation Center at the University of Texas, continuing there until her retirement in 1988.

A member of the University Presbyterian Church of Austin, she was actively involved in the village council of San Leanna, the community where she lived.

Anna is survived by two sisters.
