Anna Virginia (Peggy) English Brew, 87, a resident of Arlington, where she was a member of the Cathedral of St. Thomas More and active in its charity and volunteer activities, died October 7, 2006, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. She had Alzheimer's disease and complications from a broken hip.
Mrs. Brew was active in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, and Christ House in Alexandria. She also volunteered in her children's scouting groups.
She was born in Washington, DC, on February 2, 1919, the only child of Earle W. English and Elsie Mace English. She was raised in Arlington, where she was a 1935 graduate of Washington-Lee High School. She also graduated from the old Arlington Hall Junior College for women and attended the College of William and Mary.
Early in her career, she did administrative work at the Census Bureau and personnel work in the Navy Department. In the mid-1960s, she was a tour guide in Washington.
Survivors include husband of 63 years, Frank Brew; four children, William, Elizabeth, Katherine Barbee, and Robert; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Interment followed Mass of Christian Burial conducted at the St. Thomas More Cathedral, Arlington, VA, Thursday, October 12, 2006.
