Alaska resident Anna K. Smith, 90, died March 5 at Providence Hospital. A funeral was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown. Rob West, Elder with the Parkway Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiated. Burial was in the spring in Anchorage Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 15, 1901, in Klukwan. She moved to Anchorage in 1923. In the early 1930s, she did fur trapping with her husband along the Susitna River. She worked for Emards Cannery in Anchorage from 1936 to 1945. She was a food service worker at Alaska Native Medical Center from 1945 until retiring in 1971. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Parkway Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Alaska Native Sisterhood and Cook Inlet Region Inc. She was a special lady who loved people and the outdoors, her family said. Her husband, Henry, died in 1974.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Berry Tompkins of Juneau; her daughter, Dorothy of Anchorage; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
