Max Varner Wall went to be with his Heavenly Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 26, 2023 surrounded by his family at home after a short illness with cancer.

He was born on February 21st, 1933 in Belle Rive, Illinois to Henry and Violet (Varner) Wall. He always wanted to live to be 100 surpassing his dad of 96 years, but didn't make this goal. He said "the best choice he ever made" was when he married his wife, Judy, on June 9th, 1957, and stayed happily married for 65 years and 8 months.

Before his marriage to Judy, he served as a Corporal E-4 in the United States Army in 1953 to 1955, telling his family many stories of his military life. He says he was not street-wise and was a naïve kid from a very small town when he was inducted in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving at several camps during his two year tour of duty: Camp Atterbury, Indiana, Camp Haven, Wisconsin, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, Fort Custer, Michigan, Camp Carson, Colorado, Camp Hale, Colorado and Fort Riley, Kansas as an Artillery/Battery, and Heavy Semi-Truck and M-29 Weasel Truck Driver. He thought because he didn't serve in the country of Korea, during the Korean Conflict, his service wasn't as important, but his family believed otherwise and he was recently pinned at a beautiful Veterans Ceremony for his service.

He was a lifelong mechanic, and worked for Hood Brothers before being drafted and then after leaving the Army; he returned to Hood Brothers Motor Company in Broadlands, IL. He also worked at several other local garages before leaving to finish his career with Illinois Bell/Ameritech/AT&T for 25 years. He was a mechanic on their fleet of vehicles and heavy construction equipment. He specialized in Transmission Repairs. He also worked again part-time for Les Hood's Garage in Champaign, Illinois, who had by this time become his father-in-law. After his retirement from the telephone company, he worked several years for the University of Illinois Assembly Hall, now known as the State Farm Center, as part-time help.

After Judy and Max were married, they had three sons. They took up tent camping upgrading to travel trailers, and then to motorhomes, traveling over most of the United States except the Northeast. Max fell in love with the Northwest where his oldest son and family lived amongst the beautiful forests and mountains. God's Country!! One year they took their four year old granddaughter and seven year old grandson with them to join up with four of their other grandkids. Another trip they took two twelve year old granddaughters on their trip to beautiful Canada and Alaska. They thought that they must have been crazy, but both trips were a complete joy for them! Max taught all of his sons auto mechanics so they could be able to work on their own cars. He was also a very strong Christian and hopes he passed those values on to his sons and grandchildren. He taught Second Grade Boys in Sunday School at Webber Street Church of Christ in Urbana where he was a practicing member and Deacon for many, many years. They also attended First Christian Church in Champaign and Windsor Road Christian Church for many years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and all things racing. Also, he was a Chicago Bears fan, St. Louis Cardinals fan and all University of Illinois Sports fan.

Max is survived by his wife, Judith ("Judy")(Hood); three sons, Jeffrey Len and his wife Debbie(Bein), and their four children, Lissie, Jeremy, Lindie with her husband Zach and their daughters, Hensleigh and Brynnlee, and Justin with his wife Maya(Baley) and their two sons, Adonis and Zathrian; James "Kevin" and his wife, Annette(Kulmaczewski) and their daughter Taylor and her fiancée Michael(Kasinkas), and son Spencer and his wife, Jessica(Pool); and Ronald "Keith" and his significant other Sandra Schleef and his son Jason and his wife Carley(Martin-MacFarlane), and his daughter Jaimie and her husband Jeff Baker. He is also survived by his brother Jim and his wife Darlene Wall. He has been met in Heaven by his parents Henry and Violet, his sister Betty, his daughter-in law Cynthia Wall and has many nieces, nephews and their families.

Max has chosen to be cremated by Evergreen Cremation Services and a Celebration of his Life will be at a later date with family only. His ashes will be interred at the Fairfield Cemetery near Newman, Illinois within Judy's family plot where she will eventually join him.
