William was 18 months old when his father, stepmother, and step siblings emigrated to New Zealand on the ARAB in June 1841

William's wife, Susannah Hirst, and her family were neighbours of William and his family.

He married her when he was 22 and she was 23 - she was 9 months older than him. They had 4 (known) children. The last child, John William b.11th Nov.1869 was born 6 months after his death.

William died 7 years after their marriage, cause unknown at this time, 51 years before Susannah.
