Clive Milton Burgess
February 25, 1927 - November 22, 2022

Clive Milton Burgess, 95, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Nov. 22, 2022. He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in St. George, Utah, to Clara Cannon and Milton Burgess as the youngest of five children. He grew up in St. George and attended St. George Elementary, Woodward Junior High School and Dixie Academy. Clive served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Marcus Island during World War II.

Clive married Joan Palmer in 1951 and they had one daughter and four sons. He was a lifetime rancher and cattleman. He also worked for the city of St. George for 28 years where he oversaw the cemetery and parks. He loved chasing mustangs and wild cows. He was at his happiest when he was on his horse checking on his cows. He loved to fish the reservoirs and streams of Southern Utah. He loved to hunt mule deer at the ranch with his family and friends and hosted deer camps with hunters each year.

In addition to Joan and his family, the ranch at Mountain Meadows was the love of his life. He spent his days walking the ranch and knew every inch of that land. He and his wife raised an amazing garden there every year.

Clive is survived by his wife Joan Palmer; children Joe (Beverly) Burgess, Ed (Lori) Burgess, Keith (Ila) Burgess and Mark (Kathy) Burgess; son-in-law Mike Alldredge; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clara and Milton; his siblings Robert Burgess, Audrey (Glen) Quigley, Rodney (Elizabeth) Burgess and Bonita (Walter) Rice; his daughter Cynthia (Michael) Alldredge; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held at Metcalf Mortuary Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, prior to services, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery located at 600 E Tabernacle St.
