Son of Harrison Tate and Mariah Hill, husband of Sarah Augusta West∼In the spring of 1862, at the age of seventeen, Isaac Henry Tate enlisted as private in Co. K, 34th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A. but was discharged due to illness later that same year. In the spring of 1863 he enlisted in Co. A, 15th Alabama Infantry, led by Col. Wm. C. Oates. As a Confederate soldier Tate participated in the battles of Gettysburg, Chickamauga, and the Wilderness, where he was wounded on May 6, 1864. After the Civil War, Tate married his stepsister, Sarah A. West, and farmed in Alabama's Wachoochee Valley until about 1881 when he and his family relocated to Columbia, Alabama where he ran a general store. In 1888 his business failed and he and his family relocated to Texas, living in Vernon until 1890, when they moved to Dallas. In Dallas, Tate worked as a carpenter and joined the local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was the first member of his family to fly in an airplane. After his wife died in 1928 he went to live in the Confederate Home in Austin but returned to Dallas a few months before his death in 1932. He was survived by three daughters.
