She was born along with her twin brother Allen, on their grandparent's farm, south of Culbertson on May 12, 1932, to Thomas and Dorothy "Lena" (Cole) Anderson.
Ellen attended school and graduated from Trenton High School in 1950.
Ellen was married to Alvin Barlow in 1948 in Atwood, KS. He preceded her in death in July of 2004.
Ellen continued her education after her marriage, attending McCook College, Kearney State College, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Ellen taught school in rural Hitchcock County schools for several years, later she taught 5th and 6th grade in Culbertson, and Hays County, before retiring.
She was active in the community volunteering with the Pantry, Library, and City of Culbertson in the office.
Ellen was a member of the Methodist Church of Culbertson, UMW, Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma.
She enjoyed playing cards, (Kings on the Corner's), crossword puzzles, Jumble, Word Search, genealogy, and the Historical Society.
Ellen was a passionate fan of Nebraska Football and Volleyball, and an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lena; husband, Alvin; grandchildren, Bret, Cody, Chelsea and Christina; brothers, Allen and Charles (Jean) Barlow; Alton "Clyde" Barlow; infant, Joseph; sisters, Marie (Harry) King, Lola Hubl, infants, Lorine and Ellen; sister-in-law, Lila Anderson.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Mark) Helm of Indianola; step-brother, Mike (Reta) Barlow of Lenora, KS; six grandchildren, Troy, Theresa, Tracy, Trudy, Trevor and Benjamin; 16 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Culbertson Methodist Church with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating.
Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
