Eli seems to have married twice; in the 1850 and 1860 census, he is living with a Nancy.

He married Jane E DAVENPORT on 30 Sep 1869 in Forsyth County, NC.
The marriage record in the FamilySearch database, "North Carolina Marriages, 1759-1979," named his parents as Peter and Mary Cline.

There is only one Peter Cline/Kline in the area 1810-1850. In the Ancestry.com North Carolina Marriages databases, there is a marriage of Peter Kline to Elizabeth Alberty, 10 Feb 1803, Stokes County. The bondsman was Henry Alberty and witness was T. Armstrong.

Peter Kline in the 1810 census was in Bethania, Stokes Co., NC. Bethania is now in Forsyth County. Despite the presence of two young children, there is no adult woman in the household. If this is the Peter who married Elizabeth Alberty, then it is likely that she had died.

This Peter Kline may be the same Peter who was Eli's father and was probably married a second time; in 1820 there is an adult woman now in the household.
