Cales - Ira Cales, of Ralston, Oklahoma, son of Jackson Cales of 1113 Millington street, died at Mercy hospital in Arkansas City Thursday morning at three o'clock. Mr. Cales was a sufferer from Brights disease for several years and four weeks ago was taken to the hospital for treatment, but of no avail - the Grim Reaper won.

He was a man of exceptional ability, clean in habits, pure in mind, deed and thought, always thinking more of others than of self, and was a living example of honesty, integrity and virtue; always ready with his counsel and advice to aid father, mother, brothers or sisters in every way possible. He was especially devoted to his parents, caring for his mother in a most dutiful way during her last illness.

Three weeks before his death he professed Christ and prayed most fervently for peace with his God. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which his parents were devout members. In his prayers he frequently called to his mother to take him home with her.

Ira Cales was born on a farm near Dexter, Cowley county, Kansas, June 29, 1878, and died March 29, 1923, aged 44 years and 9 months. He lived practically all of his life in Cowley county, moving to Ralston, Oklahoma, seven years ago, where he engaged in the garage and ice plant business. Before moving to Winfield he was engaged in farming about fourteen miles northeast of Winfield.

He was never married. Surviving besides the aged father are six brothers and three sisters, H.T. Cales, of Lakeland, Florida, Gorge A. Cales of Caney, Kansas, John O. Cales of Ralston, W.A. Cales of Mound Valley, O.J. Cales of Ponca City, Mrs. Elwood Young of Ponca City, Mrs. M.D. Gay of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Mrs. C.W. Gay of Winfield. The mother and one sister preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held from the First Methodist Episcopal church in Winfield Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will be in the family lot in the New Salem cemetery.
