Clarice Withrow Mullis, 89, of Jesup died Sept. 29, 2006, after an extended illness. The Gilmer County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a member of the O'Quinn Baptist Church. She was the widow of Willie L. Mullis and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Wendy Mullis. Survivors are three daughters, Betty M. Hodge of Jesup, Wanda M. Maddox of Bonaire and Francis M. Hoffman of Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, W.L. "Billy" Mullis of Jesup and Fred C. Mullis of Waycross; a sister-in-law, Ruth B. Withrow of Brunswick; 12 grandchildren, Pamela J. Hodge, Charles F. Hodge, Arthur L. Hodge, Penny M. Powell, W.L. "Bill" Mullis III, Denny Maddox, Melissa M. Lowry, Angela Mullis-Ingram, Mandy M. Binder, Faith Myers, Sandra Thuringer and Lana Whitley; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at O'Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter, Donnie Mullis and Rev. Larry Copley officiating. Interment was in O'Quinn Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W.L. "Bill" Mullis III, Charles F. Hodge, Arthur L. Hodge, Denny Maddox, Christopher Gordon, and Danny Whitley. Honorary pallbearers were senior adults of O'Quinn Baptist Church. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
