Longtime Anchorage resident Nathan H. Newman, 78, a retired aviation parts manager for Alaskan Aircraft, died May 21 at home. At his request, no formal services were be conducted. His cremated remains were scattered over Mount Susitna.
Mr. Newman was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Grant Township, Kan. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Kan., in 1940. He was married to Virginia Osredker on Sept. 6, 1941, in Miami, and moved to Anchorage in 1947. During his aviation career, he had worked for Eastern Airlines in Miami, Reeve Airmotive and Alaskan Aircraft before retiring in 1977. He enjoyed carpentry work and fishing.
Mr. Newman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia of Anchorage; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Loren Merrywell of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Martha Cordray of Ocie, Mo.; and his grandson, Christopher Merrywell of Seattle. Arrangements were handled by Witzleben's Sixth Avenue Chapel.
