He and Harriet had 8 children (Marianne Reason Palmer, b. 1852), Henry John Palmer (1855-1898), Eliza Harriet (1857-1866), Arthur William (1861-1904), John James (later adopted by Harriet's brother and renamed James Donville Fairchild, 1863-1936), Elizabeth Lizzie Amelia (b. 1865), and Walter F. (1869-1886). The family immigrated to the US in 1866. William died of TB.
