John Callahan Strong, brother of Captain Bill Strong. Both served together in Company K, 14th Kentucky Cavalry; John as Sergeant, Bill as Captain. He was wounded by Rebels on or about January 1, 1864, while returning from Boonesville. He lingered in pain for the next several months with a serious wound to his side. John died on June 03, 1864.

Killed in an Ambush near Jett's Creek during the "Family Feuds" of Breathitt Co., Kentucky.
