Marion E. "Poppy" Stafford, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was a resident of Edinburgh.
He was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Liberty, Ky., to Frank Marion and Dora L. (Games) Stafford. He was married to Wilma J. (Whited) Stafford. She preceded him in death May 26, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice (Tony) Burton of Edinburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Joseph, Wesley, Bennie and William Stafford; and five sisters, Betrice Belden, Dorothy Phillips, Desie Brown, Stella Vaught and Jessie Bryan.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Edinburgh American Legion Post 233.
He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus.
He had been a resident of Keepsake Village of Columbus. He loved to fish and hunt.
The Rev. Lewis Burton will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Edinburgh American Legion will conduct military graveside rites at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Mr. Stafford, a resident of Keepsake Village in Columbus, retired from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Edinburgh American Legion Post No. 233. He loved to fish and hunt.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh with the Rev. Lewis Burton officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with military graveside rites conducted by Edinburgh American Legion.
