George Martin of Martin County was in the city Sunday to say William Edwards, who recently came here from Kansas, and who reported the whereabouts of Asa Martin who was long ago supposed dead. George is thirty years old and the oldest son of Asa Martin. He left Sunday afternoon fully satisfied that the Asa Martin of Indian Territory is his father.William Edwards who is still in this city visiting friends and relatives, was born in Daviess County, and is the son of Thomas Edwards, deceased. William was raised by his uncle Henry Edwards who followed the wagon making business in this city about twenty-five years ago and who died prior to the war. William Edwards entered the army, was captured and served some time in Libby Prison. He was taken to the hospital in Arkansas and after the war located in the west and engaged in cattle raising. He has accumulated considerable property and his visit here is for the purpose of inducing the widow of his uncle, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards, to return to Kansas with him and accept a home for herself and children. Mr. Edwards was for several years the partner of Asa Martin in the cattle business and that was what brought intelligence of his whereabouts. Some of the middle-aged men in this city will remember William Edwards as a small, slim boy who twenty-five years ago lived in the property on the west side of second street once owned by George McCracken.
