December 8, 1927 - February 24, 2022

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at a 2:00 PM Liturgy of the Word in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Mary Doris Duhon Albarado, age 94, who passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Cornerstone South in Lafayette.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday 28, 2022, from 10:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed on Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the funeral home.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Deacon Kenneth Soignier will conduct the services.

Survivors include her children, Carl Mike Albarado and his wife, Tina, Steven Kent Albarado, and Susan Albarado; her six grandchildren, Colby, Lacie, Nick, and Seth Albarado, Jamie Clark, and Joshua Hogan; and six great grandchildren, Kate Declouet, Lucy Declouet, Alex Clark, AbbyGayle Clark, Devyn Hogan, and Gabriel Hogan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Albarado; her parents, Fernest Duhon and the former Edvelina LeBlanc; one sister, Anite D. Trahan; and four brothers, Elus Duhon, Clovis Duhon, Fernand Duhon, and Wallace Duhon.

A native of Maurice and a resident of Lafayette, Mary entered primary school not speaking a word of English, having grown up speaking only French in her home, she went on to graduate, a year early, as Salutatorian receiving English Medals of Honor, and helped to teach her entire family a new language. She then attended SLI (aka USL/UL) and went on to be hired by Halliburton.

Mary was raised Catholic and loved her rosary.

She enjoyed traveling cross country to visit her husband, Bob, when he was stationed in California while serving in the US Navy. She rode on the Sunset Limited, enjoying her travels and coming home with stories of the many characters she met along the way.

She was a loving mother and homemaker. Mary was an avid card player, often hosting card games with her husband Bob. She later spent time teaching her grandchildren to play cards. She was a Cribbage, Rummy and Casino shark. Mary loved dancing and could often be found cutting a rug with Bob right there in the middle of their living room.

She was a wonderful Cajun cook, made the best fried chicken around and could hang with the best of them. Her and Bob's homemade ice cream was nothing to shake a stick at either. She was a talented gardener with a green thumb and kept a beautiful flower garden.

Her smiles were plentiful, and when she laughed it was with her whole body and spirit and you simply could not help but laugh right along with her, even if you didn't know why you were laughing.

Mary loved fishing, a nice camp and a comfy porch swing. Fishing was a true passion of Mary and Bob's and they spent plenty of time teaching not only their children, but nephews, nieces, and neighbors alike.
Mary will be remembered with love and fondness by everyone who knew her. We have no doubt that she is at peace with the Lord now, dancing in heaven along the banks with Bob in between every cast they throw.

Pallbearers will be Colby Albarado, Nick Albarado, Seth Albarado, Josh Hogan, Gabriel Hogan, Jamie Clark, and Alex Clark.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ms. Mary Albarado's name to Hospice of Acadiana - 337-232-1234 - 2600 Johnston St Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 - hospiceacadiana.com/donate
