Mico Post Office, Jones County, Mississippi, was established about 1880 in the home of James Lawrence Welborn, on a Star Route running from Old Williamsburg in Covington County to Shubuta in Clark County. Bell and Hilyer Welborn, sons of James Lawrence Welborn, carried the mail on horseback, making two round trips each week, and served several post offices. Hilyer Welborn became postmaster when he married, and moved the post office to his new home a few miles away.

With the coming of the railroad, other post offices were established for better service and the Star Route discontinued. For sometime before Mico was discontinued, which was about 1906, an old man by the name of Hoe Gavin brought the mail out from Errata.
