He was the son of William Hamilton "Hamp" "Buck" Bunch and Rebecca Jane Smith Bunch (1838-1885, burial place unknown). Stillman was the second of five known children born to this union.
Stillman married Malinda Isabelle "Belle" Ramsey on October 15, 1891 in Carroll County, Arkansas. They had 6 children, 5 daughters surviving to adulthood.

S. H. Bunch, a well-known resident of Paso Robles, passed away this morning after a long illness at the age of 49 years.
For many years past Mr. Bunch had been park-keeper, and he was known and highly respected by everyone. Unfortunately he contracted tuberculosis and some months ago he had to resign his position. Since then he has gradually failed, until this morning he was called to his last rest.
Deceased leaves a wife and five children, as well as a host of friends throughout the county, to mourn their loss.
The funeral will take place in Paso Robles tomorrow.
Two brothers of the deceased died from the same disease.
