May 9, 1865
Dear Cousin,
"There has been great changes in our family since you was here. Father was taken sick in '62, I think he had the palsey. He was a helpless as a child for eight months. He died the 4th of July 1863. He lost all his reasons four months before he died. Uncle Whitefield is well and hardy. "
James could possibly be buried in the Bethel Grove Cemetery about 2 miles outside the community of Cottage Inn. The 1860 census states their Post Office was Cottage Inn. There is a Bethel Grove Cemetery Sec7/185E Bethel Grove Road, Belmont Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. This cemetery has the children of Eliza Jane and John F. Osborn buried there with headsones. We know from this letter he was living with his son-in-law and daughter John F. and Eliza Jane Osborn.
