John William Calvin was born on Mar. 24, 1861, at Sedalia, Mo, and passed away at his home in Chadwick on Wednesday, June 23, 1937, at 2:20 am, aged 76 years, 2 mos and 29 days.
He was first united in marriage to Nettie Scott of Springfield. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive, Walter and John Calvin of Creston, Iowa, and Arthur of Lennox, Iowa. This companion was called away while these children were quite small. He later was united in marriage to Josie Carter of Chadwick. To this union were born two children, one of whom survives, Miss Pauline Calvin of Springfield, also a stepdaughter, Mrs Golda Woodfin. This wife also preceded him in death and he was married a third time, on September 17, 1916, to Lou Shipman of Chadwick, who survives him, and to this union was born one child, Clifford Calvin of the home. A stepdaughter, Mrs Frances Dullin of Nevada, Mo, also survives. Besides the widow and children he leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Jesse Calvin of Springfield and Ed Calvin of California, one sister Mrs Sadie Murphy of California, thirty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a former stockman in this vicinity and was well known throughout this territory.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm, in the Chadwick Union church, with the Rev Roy Shipman officiating. Interment was made in the Chadwick cemetery under the direction of the Klepper Funeral Home of Ozark.
