On December 23, 2016, Amelia Gonzalez Martinez-Nelson's spirit peacefully returned to her Lord's Kingdom in Heaven. Born August 18, 1929, in Needles, California, finally residing in Barstow, California.

Amelia, a 1947 graduate of the Barstow High School participated in various athletics, later leading to her hobbies such as bowling and women's softball. She is remembered as one of San Bernardino County's premier pitchers.

Amelia retired in 1994 from Barstow Community College. She was a member of the Barstow Riffian Alumni, a devoted member of the Barstow Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and Barstow Unified School District's Department of Food Services.

Amelia's passing was preceded by her parents Antonio and Maria Gonzalez, brothers Manuel, Mack, and Tony Gonzalez, husband Leroy R. Nelson, and her daughter Elisa Martinez. Amelia is survived by her sister Elisa Lobato, children Gilbert Martinez, James Martinez, John Martinez, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many precious family members, and special friendships.

Services will be held at Mead Mortuary on January 5, 2017, immediately following will be interment at Mt. View Memorial Park.
