Hosea Lee Gant, 79, of Daggett, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001 in Apple Valley. Born Aug. 22, 1922, Gant lived in Daggett for 53 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in Europe, and in the Korean War. He worked as a machinist for the Santa Fe railroad for 31 years. Gant liked fixing cars for relatives and friends and loved to read. He loved western and war movies. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for 53 years and a member of the Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Mary Gant of Daggett; four daughters, Linda Jacobs of Corona, Sharon Hall of Diamond Bar, Yolanda Kinney of Daggett and Toni Gardner of Barstow; four sons, Dwane Gant of Corona, Richard Gant of Daggett, Steven Gant of Victorville and Kevin Gant of Mesquite, Texas; two brothers, Willie Gant Jr. and Charles Gant, both of Los Angeles; his uncle, Horatio Gant of Los Angeles; his aunt, Jewell Gant of Los Angeles; two cousins, Prentice Gant of Vallejo and Jean Harden of Los Angeles; and 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
