Virginia Dorothy Ann Rhodes
April 7, 1938 — February 6, 2023

Hartsville, SC

Mrs. Virginia Dorothy Ann Rhodes, 84, of Hartsville, went to her Heavenly Home on Monday afternoon, February 6th, 2023, while with her family at the McLeod Hospice House.

Her service will be conducted by the graveside of Westview Cemetery at 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon, February 8th, 2023, with Reverend Marvin Jordan officiating and Nursing Honors provided by the Nursing Honor Guard. The family will be speaking with friends following the service at the graveside.

A native and lifelong resident of Darlington County, Mrs. Rhodes was a daughter of the late Richard Manning & Anna Lee Parnell Darnell. She was a loving mother that took great pride in her family. Virginia was a devout Christian and loved The Lord with all her heart. She enjoyed sharing the gospel every chance she had. She would travel and sing with a group of fellow Christians called "The Glory Four."

Virginia was a dedicated nurse. She enjoyed helping people and received the "Nurse of the Year" award twice. The care she gave her patients was irreplaceable. Everyone that came in contact with her praised her nursing abilities and would brag about how wonderful she was.

Having a very special way with words, Virginia enjoyed writing poetry when God placed words on her heart. She would pour the words onto paper and give it to whoever needed it.

Although she will be missed greatly on earth, we know Heaven was waiting with arms wide open as she embraced Papa, Dennis, Brent, and most importantly, Jesus!

Survivors include her children: Ricky (Della) Rhodes, Allen (Mae) Rhodes, and Pam (Tommy) Cassidy all of Hartsville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also great-great-grandchildren; brother, James Darnell and step-brother, Russell (Rita) Darnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvis E. Rhodes; sons, Brent Rhodes and Dennis Rhodes; several grandchildren; and a brother, Boyd Darnell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nurses Honor Guard of SC at 124 Debbie Dr., Pendleton, SC 29670.

Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be serving the Rhodes family.
