ABBEVILLE… John Daniel "Dan" Webster, Sr., a resident of Abbeville died at his home Friday evening, February 10, 2023. He was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 12, 2023, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home and Crematory in Headland with Nicey Eller officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery in Abbeville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel. Mr. Dan, also known as Grumps by his grandchildren and Boone by his buddies, was born at Moody Hospital in Dothan, Alabama to the late Wade Daniel Webster formerly of Auburn and the late Winnie Weed Webster. Abbeville was his home his entire lifetime. He was a member of the National Guard Unit and Jaycees in Abbeville. Mr. Dan owned Webster Motor Company for many years selling Pontiacs and GMC trucks. During his colorful life he enjoyed watching his lifelong friend Dave Edwards play football for Auburn University and the Dallas Cowboys, watching any and all Auburn athletics, NASCAR (he even drove a pace car!), dove shoots, restoring his MG convertible, golfing and fishing with his partner in crime David Herndon, and living life to the fullest while telling tall tales with all his buddies on their many adventures. Mr. Dan was a wonderful cook and cooked many meals for Abbeville Methodist Church and his community and he very much enjoyed bossing folks around in "his" kitchen.

Mr. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Nancy Jane Webster Hale; a grandson Coleman Mills "Cole" Norris; some dear friends including Dave Edwards, David Herndon, Wayne Armstrong (now he can get a good haircut and continue those stories and tall tales), Veston Bush and other friends as well as his adored dogs Maggie, Izzie and Georgia.
