Thank you, Michael Dunn, for sponsoring this page for my Grandmother.

My Grandma
Sylvia Mae Elswick she married Virgil Samuel Lowe and was the Daughter of Linzie Bert Elswick and Esther Bentley.Sylvia was a some what of a timid girl but wasn't afraid of much. She enjoyed cooking and canning with her mother-in-law and would go for walks and do sister talks when ever they might show up from time to time. Grandma loved pretty scarfs that she wore around her neck and I still have her lace up shoes. She loved to embroidery on just about everything but mostly on her dish cloths and aprons. She had a song book that she use to write in pencil different little thoughts she had and sing them to her self. If she heard a song she liked she would write that in her song book also. I have the book and the small brown wooden box and her few belongings. Grandma Sylvia died in 1931 from cancer and Virgil Samuel Lowe put all three children Walter Alvin my mother Hallie Jean and Harry Earl all in the Homesville Orphanage just outside Millersburg Ohio, and left for Summit Ohio up by Akron. Sometimes an aunt or Uncle would stop by and see them for awhile. There grandfather Delbert Lowe, after getting off work at the coal mines, he would stop by on a weekend and take them into town for a Ice Cream. But for most of the time they were left alone and Orphaned as were a lot of other children in the Great Depression. It was a full working farm and every one at some age could help do something. I have a picture that was taken at the back door with all three children and aunt Ethel Beatrice. Their father Virgil came back almost two years later married to Opel [Driesbaugh ] Tilson, he picked up his children and headed back for Summit, Ohio, where he had a Job as a plasterer.
