Edward Vernon Gay, 58, Died in a Lawton hospital.
Burial with full military honors, provided by Ft Sill was in Waurika Perpetual Care Cemetery under the direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Edward Vernon Gay was born June 30, 1923 on a farm east of Waurika. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1941 and attended Draughon's Business College at Wichita Falls, Texas.
In November of 1942 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his Country during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class. He Married Helen Hucklebay in Hastings on Aug. 15, 1945 and after his discharge in Nov 1945 he began work with Rogers Lumber Co. in Waurika. He later did pipeline work.
In 1955 he began work for the government as a Civil Service employee at Dennison, TX. The couple had lived in Lawton and Walters before moving to Waurika in 1979 after Mr. Gay retired.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Dennison Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home in Waurika, one brother, Grover Gay of Waurika; five sisters Tack Wirt and Ozuette Welch of Waurika, Laura McBee of Maricopa, CA, and Nancy Beilue of Central, NM.
Family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
