Services for Paul Athey, 74, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey Funeral Home with the Rev. David Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors by Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Athey died Saturday, March 13, 1993, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 24, 1918, at Lawrence, the son of Elmer and Ida Beuerman Athey.

Mr. Athey attended Lawrence public schools and graduated from the riveting school at Swallow Airplane Plant, Wichita, in 1941.

He farmed in the Lakeview area northwest of Lawrence until he entered the U.S. Army during World War II. When he returned, he worked for International Harvester for 17 years, then worked at Perry Lake for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 10 years before retiring in 1976 because of ill health.

His hobbies included collecting and repairing radios and recycling aluminum cans.

He married Elva Christine Harris on Sept. 18, 1943, at Olathe. She survives of the home.

Survivors include three sisters, Rosabelle Rinehart, Topeka, Pearl Grant, Lawrence, and Ruby Newton, Baldwin.
