Nan loved riding her horse, Nelly. She was a daredevil and raced Nelly beside the trains behind their house in the center of West Lafayette. Nan graduated from Virginia Intermont High School and went on to study music at Denison University. While at Denison, she was an active sister in the Chi Omega sorority as well as a member of the Ski Club. Nan certified with the National Ski Patrol. She graduated from Denison in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She played many instruments including piano, violin, viola, and French horn, but her true passion was singing. She was a mezzo contralto with a magnificent octave range.
Mom moved to Dublin to raise her family. She dedicated her energy to her children Doug, Cherie, and Holly. She often referenced her three little angels as her greatest accomplishment. Nan was active in Opera Columbus. She performed for nearly two decades. These shows included Die Fledermaus, Carmen, Fiddler on the Roof, La Traviata, La Boeheim, Tosca, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, and Madame Butterfly among others. Nan sang in the Dublin Community Church choir, Trinity Episcopal Church choir, and was a longtime member of the Columbus Maennerchor, the oldest and largest German singing society in North America.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents Dr. John Clifford Briner and Alta Garner Briner as well as sisters Martha Mokry and Cherie Cole and brother Clifford Briner.
Nan registered in 1979 for the Ohio State University Body Donation Program. After 44 years that noble decision never flickered.
