She grew up in the Watertown and Waverly, S.D., area and graduated from Waverly High School in 1944.
She married Ralph John Drake Dec. 17, 1944. They had three sons.
She was a farm wife until 1961, when she became postmaster of the Solo Post Office. She was postmaster for 11 years. She and her husband were in business for themselves until they retired in the Houston community in 1980.
She was baptized June 10, 1938, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the spring of 1944. She regularly attended early morning Lutheran services and later Sunday mornings at Souls Harbor.
Mrs. Drake loved to spend time with her family and raising flowers. She made many baby quilts for Newborns in Need and aided Sister Claire at the Texas County Food Pantry in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Ralph James Drake Jr.; two sisters, Rita Slater and Lorraine Miller; and two brothers, Keith and Robert Marquardt.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Drake of Solo and Robert Jon Drake of Cabool; three brothers, Richard Marquardt of Missoula, Mont., Don Marquardt of South Shore, S.D., and Dan Marquardt of Sturgis, S.D.; five sisters, Maxine Bundy of Brandon, S.D., Jean Dirck of Marietta, Minn., Carol Fry of Ozark and Diane Redlin and Bev Anderson of Watertown, S.D.; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services were Feb. 27 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with the Rev. David Kettner and the Rev. Cordie Wimberley officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
