Ruth E. Greiner, 73, of Camp Hill died Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

She was born May 21, 1939 in Willimantic, Connecticut, the daughter of Mary F. (Lane) Doubleday and Erwin C. Doubleday.

Ruth graduated from Windham Center Elementary School in 1952, Windham High School in 1956, and the University of Connecticut in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.

She joined the U.S. Air Force in December of 1960 and served as a Personnel Officer in Louisiana, Germany, and Hawaii. She earned the following medals: Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

In 1968, Ruth married the love of her life: Charles T. Greiner whom she met in Germany. Upon returning from Hawaii, they lived in Arizona, California, and Pennsylvania.

In 1977, she earned a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of Arizona and completed the course work for her Doctor of Philosophy.

Ruth returned to an old love: libraries. She was employed in California and in New Cumberland and indulged her love for reading with several reading groups in those states. Most recently, she led a mystery novel discussion group at the New Cumberland Public Library.

In California, she became an enthusiastic gardener growing irises, day-lilies, and roses. Upon moving to Pennsylvania, she added hostas to her garden palette.

Ruth loved life, reading, gardening, and music, but most of all, she loved her husband of forty-three years, her family, and her many friends.

She is survived by her husband forty-three years: Charles T. Greiner; her cousins: Wayne Doubleday of Connecticut, Dwight Doubleday of Connecticut, John R. Doubleday of Massachusetts, Megan and Tom Lane of Massachusetts, and Heather and Robert C. Lane of Florida.

Memorial Services will begin at 02:30 PM on Thursday, January 03, 2013 in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland with Rev. Harold S. Fox officiating.
