Born on December 15, 1922 in Columbus Junction, Iowa to Floyd E. Dean and Eva Lewis Dean. She graduated from Columbus Junction High School and went on to study at Iowa State and St. Ambrose Universities.
Mona was the loving wife of Jack E. Oberhaus for 55 years. They met as cast members for the show Babes in Toyland and both sang in the Barbershop Harmony Choruses. Music and dancing became a very important part of their marriage. Every week for 50 years Jack and Mona would go dancing. They were members of the Terpsichorean and Renaissance Dance Clubs in the Quad Cities.
Mona was employed at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company in Davenport, IA for 34 years. Once she retired, she became a Master Gardener and devoted many hours to volunteering for several organizations in Davenport, IA and Lakeland, FL.
In Davenport, IA she volunteered at the Scott County Extension Service, the Lilac Garden at Duck Creek Park, and Vanderbilt Veer Conservatory. Once she moved to Lakeland, FL she volunteered at the Lakeland Public Library , the Lakeland Beautification Board,was the Secretary for the Woodbrook HOA, and at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She also used her sewing talent to create quilted lap robes for the Woodbrook Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Unitarian Church, the Imperial Polk County Genealogy Society, the T.T.T. Society, and several garden clubs.
Mona was a avid cat person. She had a special attachment to Burmese and Bombay breeds. Her cats Obee and Cranston held a special place in her heart.
Mona was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, son Lewis Dean Oberhaus, and brother Floyd E. Dean, Jr. She is survived by her grandchildren DeAnna Oberhaus Carroll (Stewart) and John Oberhaus and great-grandchildren Benjamin and Abigail Carroll.
Mona has chosen not to hold a service and will be cremated. Please remember her in private moments and in lieu of flowers please donate to the SPCA. Burial will be at the Rock Island Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois.
