Gladys was born June 30, 1934 in Hallettsville in Lavaca County to Milan Julian Gallia and Frances (Jurecek) Gallia. She was raised in South Texas and was a graduate of Schulenberg High School.
Gladys was a country girl at heart. Her faith in God, family and friends and her love for animals from her cows to cats and dogs and especially her kitty Emily were the things that meant so much to her. She was a very resourceful and clever woman. She could repair whatever was needed on her farm - from adding on to her barn to keep calves warm to repairing her tractor, chainsaws, or mending fences - she gave it her all.
She kept up with her orchard that she and Lowell planted years ago and shared the fruits of her labor with family and friends and canning the rest. Tending to her little garden and her roses gave her great joy and happiness.
Gladys was also a great seamstress. She even sewed a suit for her husband and helped sew an Alb for one of the visiting priests here in the Catholic Church. Prior to her move to Hubbard with Lowell years ago, her home was in Arlington where she worked for many years as an LVN nurse, the last of which was spent working in a hospital pharmacy which she took great pride in.
Gladys was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends alike.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her second husband, Lowell Donovan Castleberry in 1985 and her first husband, Joseph F. Stokr in 1972.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Thiele and husband, Kermit Sr. of Gonzales and Bernice Ohnheiser and husband, Fred Jr. of Yoakum and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Hawkins, Dan Barton, Daryl Ohnheiser, Kermit Thiele Jr., David Thiele, Michael Thiele and Vic Freeman.
