She was born on December 9, 1937, in Wears Valley, Tennessee, the daughter of Arville Lawson and Ila (Lowe) Lawson.
Betty graduated from Townsend High School in 1955 and following high school earned an Associate's degree in business. She was inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Harold Webb of Townsend, her husband Cecil Hayes of Indianapolis, brothers, Ray Tipton and Ed Tipton and sisters, Lorena Johnson, Mary Ruth Maddox, and Inez Calkin.
Surviving is her son, Steve Hayes and his wife, Jo Ellen, of Arizona, daughters, Martha Vaughn of Indiana and Mary Herron and her husband, Eric, of Florida, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, brother Fred Lawson of Maryville, sister Billie Williams of Knoxville, and many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9 at Smith Mortuary, Maryville. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church, Townsend.
