Diana B. Cohen, age 95, of Micanopy FL passed away on January 24th, 2003 at her home in Micanopy, She was born on September 13th, 1927 in Canada. She met her husband Ronald Cohen as a teenager in Toronto. As friendship grew into courtship they were married. Ron worked as anthropologist throughout his working career and the couples' travels took them all over the world. She worked as a librarian and received a Master's Degree in Library from Rosary College in 1976. She went on to work for the Library of International Relations in Chicago and the National College of Education in Evanston. Moving to Florida in 1981 her love of historic preservation set her onto a path of saving houses and history becoming a defender of Micanopy's charm and heritage. She helped create the Micanopy Historical Society in 1983. Diana was one of the leads in placing the Micanopy Historic District on the National Register of Historic again in 1983.
Due to her work in creating, directing and funding a free-standing building for the Archives she received an Award from the Florida Historical Society in 2002. She raised funding to build the new building which is now named for her. She volunteered to work and run the archives in its early days. In 2012 a Resolution passed by the Town of Micanopy thanked her for establishing the Archives.
She is survived her son Paul Y Cohen and Stephen B Cohen. She was preceded in death by her son, Philip and her late husband Dr. Ronald Cohen. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Mediator, 501 NE Cholokka Blvd., in Micanopy on February 11 at ????
