Rev. J. Burton Laid to Rest
Approximately 400 persons attended services for the Rev. John S. Burton, 89, of 65 Grandview Ave., yesterday in Grace Methodist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Roland Leurich, South District superintendent of the Newark Conference of the Methodist Church; and the Rev. James Dewart, minister of Grace Church. The Rev. Mr. Burton died Monday in Muhlenberg Hospital.
The service featured requests of the Rev. Mr. Burton, "I Love to Tell the Story of Jesus and HIs Love: and "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine.: Avery A. Neuman, director of the Old Guard of The Plainfields, was soloist. Tribute was paid by the Rev. C. S. Gillespie, retired, now supply pastor of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, Warren Township.
Attending were 125 members of the Old Guard, of which the Rev. Mr. Burton had been chaplain and chairman of the Visiting Committee. He also was a member of Grace Church and chaplain of the Retired Ministers Association of the Newark Conference.
Internment in the Methodist Cemetery, Plainfield Ave., followed the service.
