John Joseph Moritz Jr. died peacefully early Tuesday morning at the age of 89. John was born on July 9, 1933 Fredericksburg Texas to John and Margaret Blum Moritz and enjoyed a great childhood spending time with the Metzger and Stehling families. John was baptized, made his first communion and was confirmed in St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy. He and his cousins spent many days and weekends working on their grandmother's ranch located Johnson City Texas. He attended St. Mary's Catholic school for 12 years graduating in 1951 participating in 6 man high school football and playing the violin in the school orchestra.
John attended the Texas A&M adjunct campus located in Junction Texas in preparation to enroll into Texas A&M University in College Station Texas. He was a member of the Corp of Cadets Company "A". Graduating from Texas A&M in 1955 with a degree in Industrial Education. He entered the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Armored Division. Stationed in Louisville Kentucky for basic training he was deployed to Baum holder Germany. He is a member of Texas A&M Association of Former Students, the 12th Man Foundation and the Texas Aggie Corp of Cadets Association.
Upon separation from the armed forces as a 1st Lieutenant in 1957 John relocated to Houston Texas. He joined the FH Maloney Company in sales where he met the love of his life Sue Jo Robert in 1957. They married in Pasadena Texas in 1960 starting a love story of 62 years. In 1965 with two partners he started a manufacturer representative sales organization Allesco serving the oil and gas industry. Serving North America they shipped product to Alaska, the east coast, Canada and down into Mexico as well as serving the oil & gas industry in the Texas and Louisiana across the gulf coast.
A dedicated father of three, John was active in his children's events in Westbury; a suburb of Houston Texas. He served on the board and as President of Westbury National Little League baseball, and was instrumental in the expansion of their organization adding a 13-15 year old prep league feeding into the local high school programs. He and a group of volunteers raised the money and equipment to build the lighted field this group began playing on in 1973. In 1990, John retired and returned to his Fredericksburg roots where he maintained his rental properties for 32 years. He spent time in his retirement traveling the world with Sue, attending class reunions at TAMU spending time with his family. He could always be found reading the newspapers, sitting on the porch or riding his John Deere lawnmower on the property.
John is survived by his loving wife Sue. Two sons John J. Moritz III and his wife Sarah, James E. Moritz and his wife Anne and his daughter Mary Katherine McDonough and her husband Gerry.
Grandchildren Jackie and her husband Jeff Dewese, John Robert and his wife Ellen Moritz, Shelby and her husband Kyle Ericksen, James Caleb Moritz, Paul Joseph Marcinkiewicz and his wife McMillian, Nick Marcinkiewicz and Carleigh Marcinkiewicz.
Great grandchildren include Cole and Grant Dewese, John Joseph Moritz IV, Benjamin Mark and Hayes Frank Moritz, Piper and Quinn Ericksen and Palmer Marcinkiewicz. He is survived by four nephews, two nieces and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Moritz and his sister and her husband Margaret Ann and Charles Crittenden.
